April with Verve….
So last month I had a great pleasure of having the honor of doing Laura Ivey’s makeup. She has been a real blessing in this world and we are all lucky for it. She was Verve’s makeover of the month and decided that she was the cover story. Please check out her story at http://www.vervemag.com/april-2012/ and pick up this month’s copy for a little of me in there as well 😉 teehee.
I am so ready!!
Spring is in the air and photo shoots are popping up every where and I can NOT wait for them all!! I am currently trying to shoot my first tutorial video. eek! Yesterday we did a test shoot just to see how how things will run and look. For the video we shot with the face of makeup herself Jackie, our photographer Dan Wickham, and my girl Danielle Travers of Westone Salon. Jackie got a few snap shots with her iphone. So I thought I would share them cause I worked hard on that look and share also a few other looks from the past I have done with this group of peoples. 😀 HAPPY SPRING!!!
One of my FAVORITES!!!
A product that I still get excited about when I put it on is SkinFood Topical Nourishment. The ingredients are wonderful, organic, and healing. I love it for my lips, my hands, and my arms. The thing that sets this product apart from others in its field is that it is made here in Asheville, NC and the container is completely biodegradable! I had the pleasure of meeting one of the co-creators of this product, Kara Errickson, when she won Verve magazine’s business plan competition. The magazine also gave her the cover and they asked me and Danielle Travers to do hair and makeup. She is a wonderful woman, wife, mother, and has big dreams for the future of the cosmetic industry. I just wanted to share this with you guys and hope you go get some!

My first live interview!!!!!
Wlos channel 13 called my boss Scott Thompson to give his ideas on some hot red carpet looks, well he decided to put me in the spot light. Oh my GOD!!! He also chose one of our best hair girls Danielle Travers of Westone Salon to be along side show casing Oscar hair trends this year. For our fantastic models he chose Jackie and Kristy, some of my favorite muses. And to really pull the look together he pulled in fashion designer Sarahbeth Larrimore of Unabashed Apparel. What a time we had with Asheville’s Victoria Dunkle talking about Red Carpet hair and makeup.

Also you can see the different types of makeup talents we have at M@ga. Mendy Hoffman has now moved, but she has left us here in Asheville talent to aspire to, xoxo sweetie thank you for all you taught me. Also I have to include one special image just to let you guys know what type of boss I have, teehee, such a clown. xoxo I hope that you all get a HUGE box of chocolate!

Hello long time no blog….
Sorry Guys Makeup has kept me busy with work… and I love it!! So back in December the team at Makeup pulled to together for Sophie Magazine’s Valentine fashion spread. With this shoot we all were inspired by Vargas pin ups. Scott Thompson as the art director and the photography done by Dan Wickham was a recipe for a beautiful sexy fashion spread. We also enlisted one of our favorite hair girls, and my bestie, Danielle Travers of Westone Salon, and Heather Smith of Adorn Salon for a fabulous manicure, pulling the over all Vargas aesthetic to a complete look . These shoots are really my favorite kind. They pull together the wide range of talent we have here in Asheville for a single thought. These shoots also really give us the chance at Makeup to really show case all the different talent we have underneath one company. Here are some behind the sense shots of this month’s Sophie fashion spread. For my Valentine model I chose one of my favorite local beauties Kristy. Oh and of coarse more images to come. xoxo
The Truth…
So as an esthetician/makeup artist I often get a look from people once they find out what I do for a living. Here in Asheville I have worked in runways, magazines, films, television, and helped women make their special days become even more special as a makeup artist and I find it all so rewarding. When someone comes to me about makeup I first tell them there are no rules and that this is not to mask themselves but highlight themselves. For me and my work skin is the last expression of the inner self. I once heard that fashion is the armor for the every day and makeup….. it is our war paint! And boy howdy I couldn’t agree more. I love my art and wish for women and men to first look inward before they look at the mirror. With fashion shows I have had the honor of working with some talented young ladies but tell them before the brush begins its work that they don’t need this to be beautiful. All they need is confidence and be solid with themselves first and the world will follow. Today media has really twisted our view of beauty. I can say that my images are airbrushed in some with makeup and in post but never I hope to this level.
So I want to share this with my readers. Take a look at this video and then look at the magazines and billboards. I think you will feel better about yourself.
